A 'hairline' or 'greenstick' fracture are types of partial fractures of bones. A chip may also occur on a bone.
A greenstick fracture is one in which the bone is bent, but not broken all the way through (mostly seen in children). Another one is a stress fracture called a hairline crack.

Greenstick Fracture
A buckle fracture is a fracture in which there is incomplete loss of integrity of the bony cortex, frequently caused by a compressive force. These are also called a Torus fracture. They are treated by splinting or casting for about 3-4 weeks. These tend to heal quickly.
A simple fracture - results in a 'clean' break across the bone. A green-stick fracture is an incomplete break.

strike
Fractures are termed complete if the break is completely through the bone and described as incomplete or "greenstick" if the fracture occurs partly across a bone shaft
When a bone breaks, it is called a fracture.
When a fracture is associated with a laceration or cut in the area of the fracture, it is called an open fracture
A closed fracture may also be referred to as a simple fracture. An open fracture is also called a compound fracture.
simple fracture
A transverse fracture is a bone fracture which runs at a right angle to the length (axis) of the bone. See link in Related links for more discussion of categories of fractures-- * linear, oblique or transverse * simple or compound * complete or incomplete
