In the simplest terms, a book index is simply a key to locating information contained in a book. It is also known as back-of-the-book index. The words of the Index should be relevant and of interest to a possible reader of the book, so it can easily guide him to what he may be looking for in the book.

Nowadays some writers and publishers use software to help them create their back of the book index. I use a software called PDF Index Generator. It helps me a lot to create and finish my book indexes saving me a lot of time.
