It's a grenade launcher - used by american military.
In 1983 the USAF had the first MK19 Mod 3
2212 meters
It all depends on where you are coming from !
It can be effective out to 2200 metres in later models.
An area that cannot be observed or engaged with direct fire is called dead space. Dead space is usually engaged using indirect means either by an M203, Mk19 (grenade launchers) or mortor systems. It is indicated on a range card as diagonal lines.
A Field Artillery unit only consist of guns , Howitzers to be exact . M109 , M119 , and M777 are the updated howitzers . M109 and M198 are two howitzers that are being phased out . Field Artillery units also use .50 Cal Machine Guns, Mk19's (automatic grenade launcher) and M240B machine guns . Every howitzer has the capability of direct fire which doesn't require FDC and can be done in under 30 seconds depending on the unit so enemies never come close to field artillery units . Soldiers of a Field Artillery unit also carry M4 rifles and some with a M203 attachment (single grenade launcher) .
if you were recruited as a 03xx and finished boot camp your next step is to got to the school of infantry. when i went through after about the second or third week you put your name on the list for 0331/ 0341/ 0351 and evaluated up until the fourth week when there was a split from the 11's and the weapons marines. your best bet is to talk to the instructor about being a machine gunner so he remembers you. as for being a medium machine gunner (m240b/ m240g) that is up to where your name falls on the list at the end. there is a 50/50 chance of being a medium machine gunner as there is a heavy (m2/ mk19). you can request to change if you wish but you will have to put in at least a deployment for that wish to be be considered. m60's have been phased out for 03's now everywhere i have been and the m249 saw is for 0311's.
For their wartime mission, them MPs manage rear area security. Mostly using armored HMMWVs with SAW, M2 or Mk19 weapons mounted. That puts them in the light/motorized infantry camp. (although what passes for 'rear-area' these days is iffy) For their peacetime mission, they do law enforcement on military installations with no 'infantry' component to it. You drive a government squad car and do traffic stops. Every now and again you get a domestic violence in the housing area to make the day exciting. FWIW, most police departments like 11-series retirees for their police force. You will not find an infantry MOS to be a handicap when looking for your civilian job. If you want infantry training and missions, you really need to consider an 11-series MOS.MPs have been described as Infantry on wheels. MPs rarely do garrison duty (ie. traditional police functions on an Army post) but now do mostly combat support operations like guarding detainees, escorting convoys and patroling highways "over there". The US Army military police are not infantry. Their mission is not to close with and kill, capture, or destroy the enemy. It is possible that they might be called on to perform an infantry mission if the combat situation was so distratrous as to have them fight to keep from being over run.So if you don't want to be in the foxhole, or in the cold don't join the Infantry. The Infantry is expert in close order combat to engage and defeat the enemy. MP's are the ones who patrol the street's, and keep order after an area has been secure.Addendum:There was a saying that was common in the US Army when I served back in the dark ages: When all the missiles have been launched, when all rounds have been fired down range, when the jeep is out of fuel, and the bridge has been laid, and chow has been served, every soldier in the United States Army is infantry.

The general issue sidearm is the M9 Beretta 9mm pistol.Certain Marine special operators use the MEU(SOC), which is a heavily-modified version of the classic M1911 .45 pistol. The military is running out of M1911 frames that are suitable to use for this weapon, so they're in the process of buying an off-the-shelf sidearm.
