Operation overlord was another name for the battle of Normandy during World War II. Winston Churchill stated it would only work if the allies were able to keep Hitler guessing about the battle.

D-Day was the military code name for the first day of the invasion of Normandy during WW 2. -This first day was a vital part of Operation Overlord, to re-establish freedom in Europe. On D-Day the Allies managed to land over 170,000 soldiers with thousands of vehicles and supplies. This continued on a lesser scale for almost 4 months.
D-Day was one, 'the longest day' is another and the name of a movie about D-Day. The military name was 'Operation Overlord'. Any military operation has a 'd-day' and even an 'h-hour'. This differs from an actual date and time because you can refer to 'd-day' long before you actually pick a date, or you can change the date without having to change references to 'd-day' in planning documents.
Dwight Eisenhower - Dwight was a US army general who held the position of supreme allied commander in Europe. He was best known for the D-day landings in Normandy. Code named operation overlord, this operation was a campaign to liberate western Europe after the Axis forces (Germany, Japan, Italy, etc....) had captured most of Europe for 4 years. The landings were a success, but if the Germans had prevented the landings, they could have fought for up to another year!
