Antinitrogen is the antimatter analogue of the chemical element nitrogen (atomic number 7). The term may refer to either the antimatter element itself or its presumable diatomic form, analogue to molecular nitrogen (N2).

By definition, an atom of antinitrogen consists of a nucleus with seven antiprotons (sometimes called "negatrons") orbited by seven positrons; the nucleus would also likely contain seven antineutrons if found in nature, as normal nitrogen is primarily found with seven neutrons[1].

Contact between hadronic matter and antimatter results in annihilation, in which a large amount of energy is released as predicted in special relativity (e=mc2); antinitrogen therefore will annihilate on contact with any normal matter, making it difficult indeed to produce and/or study, so its properties and behavior are as of yet unknown.

[1]: Nitrogen containing eight neutrons, N-15, is also a stable isotope, but N-14 is approximately 260±30 times more common as far as is currently known.
