Manacles are manacles, especially if you are talking about old ones. I think it is primarily an Elizabethan term, for a primarily Elizabethan torture. On the other hand, if you are talking about a modern equivalent, you are thinking along the lines of handcuffs--partially [or potentially] specifically ones from which you [or another] might be dangled. Not pleasant. Then again, if you are talking about a post[postpostpostpost]modern equivalent you are probably talking about something in the fetish realm and you might, therefore, go back to manacles, themselves, for authenticity. At which point, if you are interested, it might be pleasant. But originally? Far from intended to be that way.
Manacles are a type of handcuffs.
