There is no "Best Hunter Race" in WoW. Each race has their own strength and weaknesses. There are some racials that make certain races more attractive than others though. For instance, Orcs have the "Command" racial (passive racial that increases pet damage), while the Night Elf hunters have "Shadowmeld" which puts them into a limited stealth (good for sneak attacks). There is no best race of any class in World of Warcraft. At maximum level, any racial benefits of one race over another get outweighed by gear. Below are some reasons you might want to choose one race over another.

Alliance:

• Night Elf - Shadowmeld, a limited non-movable stealth racial. Great for surprise attacks, and escaping combat when you pull too much aggro.
• Human (coming in Cataclysm) - Diplomacy (+10% reputation gains) and Every Man For Himself (removes movement impairing effects) are quite useful...sometimes.
• Dwarf - Expansive mind (increased intellect) and the escape artist racial seem OK.
• Draeni - Free Heal Over Time = NICE! Heal your pet better, or heal yourself when you get into trouble.

Horde:

• Orc - Perhaps one of the better races for classes that utilize pets as part of their combat strategies. Orcs have the racial ability COMMAND, which gives their pets +5% damage. That along with Blood Fury, increased attack power/spell power make Orcs one of the better choices for Hunters on the Horde Side.
• Tauren - Endurance (increased base health) gives your pet more health also. Not a lot mind you, but every little bit helps. Plus, who wouldn't like to play as a big ole ManCow?
• Troll - Beserking, temporarily increased attack speed, makes trolls an OK race for hunters. Increased speed means more bullets/arrows downrange in shorter time.
