biquatr polarimeter consists of two half semicircular quartz crystals, each one of them with a different orientation..of the incident light one of the cyrstals turns the light in one direction and the other in the other direction. its used for laboratory puroes in polarimeter experiments to find the specific rotation of any optically active comound using polarimeter tube apparatus.

In the experiment of specific rotation using polarimeter, the Bi-quartz plays a crucial role. Soleil's Bi-Quartz is a kind of device which makes the instrument accurate and simple for use with white light (day light) or sodium light. i So, if a plane-polarised beam of white light falls on a plate of quartz to cut at right angles to its axis, it has its plane of polarisation rotated by this quartz. The experiment can further be performed and the readings can readily be taken.
