I currently have poison ivy and it is the only thing I know Calamine lotion is used for. Pretty much, you should rub it on your skin and it will dry the poison ivy up and will start to tighten your skin. Calamine lotion can be used to relieve itches from insect bites and some kinds of other bites.

Calamine lotion when applied to the skin has two different effects. First as it evaporates the cooling sensation distracts you from the itch. Secondly the lotion contains zinc oxide that has antiseptic properties to help with the potential for bacterial infections from scratching.
