It is the quantity of carbon consumed by oxygen in unit time.for example coke consumed at tuyer level by hot blast which carry oxygen and this oxygen consume carbon in coke which consume in raceway per unit time.
the Coke supplies carbon monoxide to reduce the ore in a blast furnace and supplies heat to melt the iron.
Hot air is blasted into the blast furnace to burn the coke (a cheap form of carbon) added to form carbon dioxide.
Blast Furnace
(Extraction of Iron in a Blast Furnace: Step 1 and Step 2)Coke reacts with oxygen from the air to form carbon dioxide and a lot of heat.Carbon + Oxygen -> Carbon Dioxide + heatC(s) + O2(g) -> CO2(g)Carbon dioxide reacts with more coke to form carbon monoxideCarbon Dioxide + Carbon -> Carbon MonoxideCO2(g) + C(s) -> 2CO(g)
to reduce basicity
The waste gas produced in the blast furnace is primarily carbon dioxide (CO2) along with other gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen oxides (NOx).
Blast furnace iron is pure iron. It isn't mixed with any other elements. In steel, iron is mixed with small amounts of carbon.
Iron is primarily extracted from iron ore in a blast furnace at an iron and steel plant. The iron ore is first processed into iron oxide, which is then reduced to metallic iron using carbon as a reducing agent in the blast furnace.
Blast furnace = Hochofen
Mudgun is hydraulically operated machine that is used to close the tap hole of the blast furnace after draining out the metal / slag from the furnace from time to time. It is heavy equipment and the most critical of all the equipments used in blast furnace. The failure of the machine will lead to shut down of the furnace to close the tap hole.
NO!!! Its primary purpose is to REDUCE iron ore to iron. Iron ore is the commercial name for iron(III)oxide ( Ferric Oxide). (Fe2O3) In the Blast Furnace , carbon forms carbon monoxide. , from the coke(carbon) and oxygen ( hot air blast). 2C + O2 = 2CO CO(carbon monoxide) is a very good reducing agent. Hence Fe2O3 + 3CO = 2Fe + 3CO2 The CO2 is not released into the atmosphere, but undergoes reduction to form more CO. NB THere are many more secondary reactions going on in the Blast Furnace.
A blast furnace is used to extract iron from its ore.
