after the death of apostles . two major institutions emerged ,they were catechumenal and cathedral schools . these schools were to train the converts such as childrens belivers adult jews and for thethe new converts .the word catechism means 'instruct'literally ,"to din into ears"it is derived from greek it occurs seven times in the new testment . there were three grades in this catechumenal schools first was the 'hereres' ,second was th e' knellers' third was the' chosen'.To pass out the first grade i.e the hereres they had to know the fundamental doctrines and practices of the chruch and also they had to show the good conduct then only they were promoted to the second grade. these kneelers had to remain during the holy communion and they had to prove their conduct in every manners to get entry to the last grade they had more advanced instruction thjan the first grade. the chosen were given liturgical ascetical and doctrinal training in preparation for baptism .these schools were manily to train for baptism and chruch membership .these schools were to make morlly and spiritullay fit . theuy were insructed to shun from pagan shows and festivals . as the christians were undergoing severe persecution .the chruch role was to make each person to live a true christian faith cathedral school was for the traning of clegy as the chruch grew the people tfrom educated classes became members many came to seek the truth s of christanity . so inorder to educate the educated peole the clergy had to be equiped with intellectual training .ti took in the 2nd and the 3rd century.
