The Cherokeepeople like most other Native American's did not have a name for themselves, the name "Cherokee" is what other tribes called them. After having to have this designation it was (generally) accepted to use that name. In our own language it is normally said as "Tsalagi" or "Cha-sala-gee" - please understand however that there are 23 dialects that pronounce this differently.
