Eastman Tritan co-polyester is the brand name of the plastic. It is a polyester blended with something else. This is the only identification you're likely to get because they are protecting their formula. Eastman Chemical makes it and you can download specification sheets on their website. Eastman claims it is BPA free and does have a sheet on the bio-compatibility of Tritan. Tritan is a rigid plastic. While I don't know what their packs are made of, Camelback is claiming to be completely BPA free. If you contact them, most likely they will give you the material brand name for the backpack researvoir. The quick answer is that you cannot know if Tritan is safe to use. I did a little internet searching, and found a list of three of the components used in the manufacture of Tritan. They are called monomers. Dimethyl terephthalate 2,2,4,4 tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanediol (TMCD) 1,4 cyclohexanedimethanol Eastman, the company that manufactures Tritan, claims that no heavy-metal catalysts, such as antimony, are used to make Tritan. They do admit that a "low toxicity catalyst metal" is used. They further claim that there is no "trace level migration of metal" from Tritan. Finally, Eastman's literature about Tritan specifies that it is safe for food contact at temperatures up to and including 100 degrees Celsius. This means that you should not microwave Tritan, or otherwise heat it up.

Now, you may not find the particular manufacturer's brand, so another will substitute well. For example, if you do not know who made your PETG, then you can use the MSDS for PETG from the Kodak company. It is named MSDS NAME:KODAR PETG COPOLYESTER 6763 You can search for the word, cancer and see that there is no reference to cancer. Next, examine the Fire Department section, since a laser uses heat to cut. Read about the safety requirements and then read the rest of the MSDS safety requirements and then act accordingly. In this MSDS, it says that fire department personnel should wear contained breathing apparatus. So, it would be a good idea not to breath the burnt material. You should connect an exhaust system and evacuate the fumes. Also, under the other safety areas it speaks about getting fresh air if exposed. So, make sure you have fresh air or a good laser machine exhaust system, or a filtration system that recycles the air in your plant. Regarding cancer, there are articles regarding drinking out of PET bottles. This is different from laser cutting.
