Alteration in Bowel Elimination Related To Ostomy
Although colorectal cancer is the most common indication for a permanent colostomy, only about 10-15% of patients with this diagnosis require a colostomy.
The cherry pit will pass through your intestines faster than if you didn't have a colostomy (just because of the surgical shortening of the bowel with a colostomy). Unless you have bowel disease that would be irritated or exacerbated by the cherry pit (like diverticulosis), it should pass through and into your bag, like all other digestive wastes, without problems. Check with your health care professional to see if you have any compounding factors with the particular condition that necessitated your colostomy to be sure.
