Once the vehicle has entered into reposession, it becomes the property of the lender. If you fight or otherwise refuse to turn over the vehicle, it could be considered breach of peace. FYI, when the repo man shows up, the vehicle isn't yours any more.

In Iowa, a breach of peace during repossession occurs if the repossessor uses force, threats, or enters a home without permission. It is also considered a breach of peace if the repossession agent behaves in a disorderly or aggressive manner that could lead to a disturbance of the peace. Any activities that result in a confrontation or disturbance with the debtor or others could be deemed a breach of peace during repossession in Iowa.

What can you do about a repossession if you only owed 717 dollars and you were never contacted about the repossession?

Pay the money. You don't have to be contacted about the repossession; you are aware of the terms of your loan in your contract. If you're behind, pay what you owe so you can get the vehicle back. * The amount owed is not relevant. The following states require "right to cure" notification before repossession action can be taken: Colorado, Connecticut, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Massachuetts, Missouri, South Carolina and West Virginia and Wisconsin (replevin order required).
