Remove solids from the mattress cover, soak up as much moisture from it as you can with paper towels. Then, create a mix of one quarter cup baking soda and one quart of cool water, along with one small drop of dishwashing liquid. Test this solution on a small, unnoticeable corner of the cover first to ensure this solution does not discolor the mattress cover first. Then, soak the cleaning solution into the mattress cover, avoiding any areas that were not stained. Then, use a wet/dry vaccuum to soak away the solution, or barring that, use absorbant towels or rags. If it is still stained or still smells bad, repeat the process as necessary. After soaking up the moisture, sprinkle the cover with baking soda, and allow it to dry naturally.
When your mattress grows too old to use, the upcoming purchase can be daunting, and sometimes you may try to prolong its inevitable discarding. Using mattress toppers or a protector is good to use to prolong your mattress life, but not when it's nearing its end. If your old mattress is already showing signs of aging and reducing your sleep quality, a mattress topper won't work a miracle. However, a mattress topper is an excellent mattress accessory upgrade when installed on a new mattress or a while after purchase. You may have the best mattress, but if it has lost its capabilities over time, there's not much you can do except discard it.
While most mattresses do not have to be cleaned often, there are certain situations that require you to do so outside of normal cleaning schedules. Foam mattresses can be one of the hardest to clean and keep clean. Here is a guide to making your job a little easier with this task. Step 1. Remove all of the bedding from your foam mattress. This includes pillows, mattress pads and covers. Step 2. Thoroughly vacuum the entire surface of your mattress. This includes all of the sides. You will need to flip your mattress over and do the other side as well. Using a hand held vacuum or a hand attachment for your vacuum will provide the best results. Step 3. If you have stained or heavily soiled areas on your foam mattress you will need to treat them with hydrogen peroxide. This can discolor your bed so test it on a small area first. Apply a small amount of hydrogen peroxide onto a clean cloth or rag. Using circular motions, rub this into the soiled area on your foam mattress. Repeat this method with clean and clear water to rinse. Do not saturate the mattress with peroxide or water. Step 4. If you have really heavily soiled areas that do not come clean with the hydrogen peroxide, you can use borax which can be found in the laundry isle of the grocery store. Spray the soiled area of the mattress with plain water. Sprinkle some borax over the soiled area. Using a clean cloth, rub the borax into the mattress using gentle circular motions. You can use this on your entire foam mattress if needed. Blot the areas that you have cleaned with a clean rag or cloth. Let it dry completely and vacuum up what is left behind. Do not saturate the mattress as this will cause longer drying times. Step 5. For urines stains on your foam mattress, you can use an enzymatic pet stain remover. Spray the soiled area with the stain remover. This will help to eliminate the bacteria and odor causing germs from the urine. Blot the area with clean cloth or rags. Step 6. Allow your foam mattress to dry completely before replacing any of the bedding, mattress pads or mattress covers. Covering the area while it is wet can cause mold and bacteria to breed and multiply making you and your family very sick. It can take up to twenty four hours to completely dry. This time will be longer if you use excessive cleaners or wet the area a great deal. Step 7. Wash all mattress pads, mattress covers or bedding before replacing it on your foam mattress.
The best places you can go to buy a cheap memory foam mattress is a second hand store. I know it sounds gross but they clean them very well and if you are still uncomfortable you can go to Walmart and buy a plastic cover that will zip around the entire mattress for fifteen dollars and then cover that with the sheets and bed spread. That is what I did and you don't even think about it when you are having the best sleep ever.

While foam mattresses need not be turned like conventional mattresses, the first word in foam mattress maintenance is the same as it would be for the maintenance of a standard mattress. That word is protection. Covering your foam mattress with a quilted mattress pad cover that is removable and washable will have the biggest impact on preserving both the life and freshness of your foam mattress. Always make certain that the mattress cover is completely dry before replacing it on your foam mattress, and vacuum the foam mattress itself once a month.
