At most colleges and universities, students can graduate with Latin honors. Cum laude, Summa cum laude, and Magna cum laude are the honors distinction.
cum laude: 3.5 GPA minimum magna cum laude: 3.7 GPA minimum summa cum laude: 3.9 GPA minimum
To graduate with cum laude honors at Wheaton College in Illinois, you must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
3.5 to 3.69 for cum laude. 3.7 to 3.89 for magna cum laude. 3.9 and up for summa cum laude. I do not know if these scores are based on institutional or cumulative GPAs.
