depends on how old you talking, most 88s and up have computers..which is the worst thing they could have put in vehicles. they cause alot of problems and are expensive to fix. also newer vehicles are made of compressed styrofoam and plastic so they dont hold up as good in a wreck. older vehicles are easier to work on and in most cases are more reliable

Just get a new support. There is some variance in how they attach depending on the car. There should be an instruction sheet with the new one if there is a difference from the original one. Some come with a new mounting bolt, some just clip on the old bolts.
