the BIOS is firmware which contains information for hardware, operating systems and drivers to interface with the motherboard components. It stores information concerning what hardware is available.
The POST is the Power On Self Test which the BIOS runs when you power on the computer. It tests the various components to ensure correct function before passing program control to the boot system on the device selected as the boot device in the BIOS settings.

∙ 8y ago- Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is a collection of basic low level I/O driver routines and bootstrap routines used to perform initial startup of the computer, load the OS loader from hard disk, and pass control to the OS loader (which will load and start the OS).
- Power On Self Test (POST) is one of the first routines in the BIOS that runs. It performs a series of hardware functionality tests and if a problem is found flashes error code patterns on LEDs (or in some systems may draw a very simple error symbol on the display) for diagnostic purposes, if all of the POST tests pass, control is returned to the BIOS which finishes initial startup of the computer, etc.
