The easiest way to tell you the difference between a lineman and an electrician or journeyman wireman (both lineman and journeyman wiremen are electricians) is for you to look at the meter on your house, everything from the meter outside the property is the lineman's responsibility and everything from the meter inside the property is the journeyman wireman's responsibility. This is why lineman are also referred to as outside electricians and wiremen are called inside electricians.

While the two occupations are very similar and both deal with electricity, technically, they are not the same thing. Electricians deal with the electrical wiring inside the home, while linemen work mostly outdoors.
