RAM is temporary memory, while hard disk space is more permanent memory.

When you save a file, you save it to your hard disk, but when you call up the interet, it uses temporary memory, RAM. The more windows you have open, the more RAM you will use up. Proccesses that the computer preform take up RAM, while saved files and programs take up hard disk space.

Hard disk space is usually a whole lot larger than RAM. For instance, a laptop may have 250GB (gigabytes) of hard disk space, and only 2GB of RAM

AnswerRAM is the computers memory, where as hard disk is the storage of the memory.

information stored in RAM can be accessed and utilized much faster than information stored on a hard drive. The RAM is therefore generally used to store information in the short-term, for example for programs and processes you are currently running that will need a certain bit of information very quickly in order to function. The hard drive is generally for more long-term storage and for files which are required to run programs. When you run a program many files required for function may then be copied to RAM for use while running this

A hard disk is used for (semi) permanent data storage. Its where your programs are when you -aren't- running them.

Think of your computer as a chef. The hard disk is his recipe book, he can keep hundreds of recipes in it & refers to it when he starts working on a dish. The RAM is his short-term memory.

RAM stands for random access memory.
Think of RAM as a desk (like anyone's desk in an office) and think of the hard drive as a file cabinet.

When you open a file on a computer, it takes the file from your hard drive (your file cabinet) and puts it on the RAM (your desk) so you can work with it, play it, do whatever. RAM is not capable of holding information if there is no electricity in it, however. Only the hard drive can do that. That's why when your computer shuts off, if you didn't save it to the hard drive you lose it.

When a computer starts, what it does is load the operating system from the hard drive on to the RAM.

RAM (Random Access Memory) is a temporary storage place for instructions or data that needs to be processed by the CPU and is very fast but it losses its information when you shut down your computer and is the primary memory of the PC (Personal Computer), where the hard disk is the permanent storage place for data and is also called secondary memory and it is slower than RAM but does not lose its data when the computer is shut down.
