weight is a measure of the force of gravity on you, mass is a measure of the amount of matter an object contains. In other words, weight changes like if you where on the moon your weight would be lighter than on earth but mass doesn't change.

"Mass" is the amount of stuff an object is made of. A battleship has more mass

than a car, and a Bowling ball has more mass than a ping-pong ball.

The mass of an object doesn't change. It doesn't matter where it goes, or what

else is around. Your mass is like the money in your pocket. It doesn't change.

(Unless you eat more, or exercise a lot.)

One of the laws of nature is that there are always a pair of forces between every

two bits of mass, that attract them to each other. The forces are always equal, and

their strength depends on the amounts of both masses. These forces are what we

call the force of gravity.

When one of the masses is the Earth and the other mass is you, we call the force

between them your weight.

Remember that the force depends on the amounts of bothmasses. If either mass changes,

then the force changes.

-- If the small mass is a different person instead of you, then the 'weight' changes.

-- If the small mass is still you but you're standing on a different planet, then the weight changes.
