Why do microvilli differ in appearance?

Inside microvilli you have actin, and inside cilia you have microtubules. Cilia are larger than microvilli, and cilia can be seen in the upper GI tract to beat away mucous which traps bacteria, virus, and other particles, microvilli is often seen in the intestines of the GI tract for nutrient absorption.

The difference is; Cila "beats" rhythmically to move fluids or secretion across the surface. Microvilli covers the surface of cells that are actively absorbing materials from the extracellular fluids.

You can distinguish a cilia as fairly long, slender extensions of the plasma membrane with nine pairs of microtublues, that are found on cells lining of respiratory and reproductive tract. The microvilli have small, finger- shaped projections of the plasma membrane, found along the lining of digestive tract.
