Best Answer

In boilers, economizers are heat exchange devices that heat fluids, usually water, up to but not normally beyond the boiling point of that fluid. Economizers are so named because they can make use of the enthalpy in fluid streams that are hot, but not hot enough to be used in a boiler, thereby recovering more useful enthalpy and improving the boiler's efficiency. They are a device fitted to a boiler which saves energy by using the exhaust gases from the boiler to preheat the cold water used to fill it (the feed water).

What is the purpose of the economizer in a boiler?

Economizers (US), or economizers(UK/international), are mechanical devices intended to reduce energy consumption, or to perform another useful function such as preheating a fluid. The term economizer is used for other purposes as well. Boiler, power plant, and heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) uses are discussed in this article. In simple terms, an economizer is a heat exchanger.

Examples of Industrial market?

Many businesses are considered to be in the industrial services sector, such as vacuuming, hydro jetting, blasting and boiler cleaning firms. Other examples of industrial services include chemical cleaning, welding and pipe beveling.

Is it cheaper to run a lpg or natural gas boiler what are the benefits of each one why would you opt for one over the other if not for energy efficiency or cost?

"why would you opt for one over the other if not for energy efficiency or cost?" * Availability - Some areas do not have Natural Gas service. * Convince - no worry about delivery schedule with Natural Gas. * Space - that tank takes up room you may not want to give up. * Safety - May or may not be true, but many would see that big old tank as dangerous. * Independence - When they surround you compound and cut off the lights at least you still have your LPG (OK, that ones a bit of a stretch but I'm trying to cover all cases).

What is function of economizer in boiler?

Basically . economiser is located in between exit of boiler and entry of air preheater. when the flue gases are coming out from boiler they take away a lot of heat. economiser utilize this heat from flue gases. and these heat is used to heat the feed water which is going to feed the bolier. hence by using economiser the coal consumption required to heat the feed water is reduced hence cost reduced.

Information of boiler economiser?

check a company called Vahterus Oy from German. we planned to install and replace all heat exhanger in our plant and boiler. One boiler economiser can reduce USD100K per year and PBT Margin is 4% yearly for 10 years. The saving comes from reduce usage of NG of 46sm3/hr

Difference between boiler mountings and accessories?

Boiler mountings are different fittings and devices which are necessary for the operation and safety of a boiler .e.g. pressure gauge, safety valves , steam stop valve etc Normally these device are mounted over boiler shell .Boiler Accessories are auxilary plants or parts required for steam boilers for their proper operation and to increase efficiency of the boiler .e.g.feed pumps, super heater , economiser etc

What is the use of economiser in boiler?

The economizer is used to raise feedwater temperature up to nearly the temperature of the boiler to avoid thermal shock and improve the boiler's efficiency. Every 11 degrees Fahrenheit increase in feedwater temperature yields a 1% increase in boiler efficiency.

Why economiser is used in boiler?

An economizer is used to heat boiler feedwater up closer to the temperature of the boiler water, using heat from the boiler exhaust gases, heat that would otherwise be wasted. The main reason is to improve the efficiency of the boiler. For every 44 degree F drop in exhaust gas temp. there is an 11 F rise in feedwater temperature and a 1% gain in boiler efficiency.

What is the purpose of a bypass on an industrial boiler economiser?

If the boiler fuel contains Sulphur (and most do) combustion products in the flue gas will include Oxides of Sulphur (SO2 and SO3). SO3 combines with water (H2O) to make Sulphuric Acid (H2SO4). If the temperature of the flue gas falls below the dew point, the combination of the acid with the moisture in the flue gas causes corrosion of the flue gas duct work. Bypassing the economiser in the early stages of a boiler start keeps the flue gas temperature above the dew point.

What is Lancashire boiler?

The Lancashire boiler comprised a large steel shell usually between 5 - 9 m long through which passed two large-bore furnace tubes called flues. Part of each flue was corrugated to take up the expansion when the boiler became hot, and to prevent collapse under pressure. A furnace was installed at the entrance to each flue, at the front end of the boiler. Typically, the furnace would be arranged to burn coal, being either manually or automatically stoked. The hot gaseous products of combustion passed from the furnace through the large-bore corrugated flues. Heat from the hot flue gases was transferred into the water surrounding these flues. The boiler was in a brickwork setting which was arranged to duct the hot gases emerging from the flues downwards and beneath the boiler, transferring heat through the bottom of the boiler shell, and secondly back along the sides of the boiler before exiting through the stack. These two side ducts met at the back of the boiler and fed into the chimney. These passes were an attempt to extract the maximum amount of energy from the hot product gases before they were released to atmosphere. Later, the efficiency was improved by the addition of an economiser. The gas stream, after the third pass, passed through the economiser into the chimney. The economiser heated the feedwater and resulted in an improvement in thermal efficiency. One of the disadvantages of the Lancashire boiler was that repeated heating and cooling of the boiler, with the resultant expansion and contraction that occurred, upset the brickwork setting and ducting. This resulted in the infiltration of air, which upset the furnace draught. These boilers would now be very expensive to produce, due to the large amounts of material used and the labour required to build the brick setting.

What is Auxiliary Boiler?

An auxiliary boiler is a secondary boiler used to support the main boiler in a steam power plant or marine vessel. It is often used when the main boiler is unable to meet the steam demands, providing additional steam capacity. Auxiliary boilers can also be used for heating purposes during maintenance or downtime of the main boiler.

What is mean by economiser recirculation line?

Since sufficient feedwater is not supplied into the economizer though the heat is absorbed from flue gas at the boiler start-up and low load operation, steaming may occur in the economizer. Therefore the economizer recirculation line is provided between the furnace downcomer and the economizer inlet feedwater piping. This line provides the recirculation flow between the drum, the downcomer and the economizer so as to prevent steaming in the economizer. Economizer recirculation valve is only opened at initial stage of the boiler start-up.
