It is a sub discipline in sociology that seeks to understand, describe and analyze how social interaction of societies and people affects the environment. Environment refers to the natural surrounding that human beings depends on in their daily life or that they affect in their endeavor to earn a living. For Susan Gorges and Ester Boserup the environmental problems are caused by artificial shortages caused by the bourgeoisie in their plight to make profits and their high levels of consumerism.
