Wavelength lambda and frequency f are connected by the speed c of the medium.

c can be air = 343 m/s at 20 degrees celsius or water at 0 dgrees = 1450 m/s.

c can be light waves or electromagnetic waves = 299 792 458 m/s.

The formulas are:

c = lambda x f - That is frequency times wavelength.

f = c / lambda

lambda = c / f

frequency is nu so the equation is actually c= lamda x nu
That could be the speed of sound or the speed of light. c = f times lambda

Wavelength is a measurement of distance, frequency is a measurement of cycles per unit time and appears as (1/ Time) so for example:

(meters) * (1/ seconds) = meters/second which is velocity.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Hence the product of wavelength and frequency of the wave would give the velocity of the wave. that is C (speed of light) = nu x lambda.

The Greek symbol nu is for the frequency and lambda for the wavelength.

In case of light wave its value in air or vacuum is 3 x 10^8 m/s.

Hence for a visible light of wavelength 5000 Angstrom its corresponding frequency is got from frequency = speed of light *wavelength

3 x 10^8 / 5 x 10^-7

So this leads to 6 x 10^14 hertz.

What does the wave length of an EM wave tell about its energy?

Longer wavelength less energy and shorter wavelength equals more energy. This is because velocity (speed)=frequency x wavelength. And te velocity of all EM waves is the speed of light. we know the expression- frequency=speed of light(c)/wavelength Energy is given by- E=h*frequency=h*c/wavelength {h=Planck's constant} so,energy is directly proportional to frequency and inversly proportional to wavelength...that is energy increases with increase in frequency and decreases with increase in wavelength. example:-red color has more wavelength and hence has less energy.

Does longer wavelength mean higher frequency?

No. Longer wavelength means lower frequency.When you multiply wavelength by frequency, the product is always the same.

What is the relationship between the frequency and the wavelength and angular velocity of electromagnetic wave?

Velocity equals frequency times wavelength

Why is it not possible to increase the wavelength and frequency at the same time?

Wavelength times frequency equals speed (of the wave). Therefore, unless you also change the speed, if wavelength goes up, frequency goes down, and vice versa.Wavelength times frequency equals speed (of the wave). What happens to the wavelength of a wave when the energy is increased?

If you are talking about an electromagnetic wave; energy is proportional to frequency (E=hf), and frequency is inversely proportional to wavelength (wavelength equals velocity divided by frequency). So when the wavelength is increased, the energy is decreased.
