It would be best to do this in the evening. The next morning your poppies would have oozed out their latex (the opium), which would have dried, changing from an initial pale creamy gloop to darker, browner more solid little lumps. You would scrape these off with a knife and there would be your opium. This could be smoked (vaporised that is) raw, or it could be refined first.
