A rooster IS a chicken....a male chicken. (A female chicken is a hen.) I have seen a lot of roosters chase hens and neither seems faster. I would expect a great difference in the speed of different chicken breeds however. A feather footed breed, like a cochin, would be much slower than a breed bred for fighting, such as an Old English. There are breeds bred for heavy meat production that would be much slower than a breed bred to look streamlined. There are also extremely large breeds...turkey sized....that would have much larger strides than the smallest, pigeon sized chickens, and then there is always the "original" chicken...the red jungle fowl...which would move as fast as a wild pheasant.
