.It is a social/political/economical system that began in the 9th to 15th century in the middle ages. Or, medieval ages, if you will. Feudalism is a system that was developed, feudal societies was what the societies with feudalism were called. Feudalism is based on the holding of all land in fief(fief is a grant of land) or fee and the resulting relation of lord to vassal(vassal is the person who received the fief) and characterized by homage, legal, and military service of tenants, and forfeiture. So, lords would sell their land in trade for military service. And the vassals would in turn get protection from the lord's samurais.

Feudalism in Europe also came with another economic system called manorialism. A manor is the self-sufficient estate of a medieval lord. Both European and Japanese feudalism began in a time of violence and warfare. Both involved an exchange of land for services.
