Directors and producers are interested in maximizing the investment dollars made available to tell a story on film.

One technique they use is to storyboard shots from scenes -- draw them on paper, looking much like a comic book without the dialog 'bubbles' -- so that the team can talk through the logistics of capturing the scene on film while spending the least amount of money. The storyboard is the visual guide for these conversations.
