When bones, or other dense living material is buried, over thousands of years as it decays it leaves spaces where minerals can gather. As the bone/ivory/shell/whatever, decays it is slowly replaced with mineral deposits that when the substance is fully decayed will fill in the hole that would have been left, and that mineral form is the fossil.

Molds casts coprolites and petrified wood are all example of what?

Fossils!!

What is the most common method of fossilization?

The most common method of fossilization is permineralization. This occurs when minerals in groundwater fill in the empty spaces of organic material, creating a fossilized replica of the original organism. Over time, the minerals in the groundwater harden and preserve the organism's structure.

What would happen if the fossilization would disappeard?

If fossilization were to disappear, we would lose the ability to study the history of life on Earth through fossil records. It would also hinder our understanding of evolution and the development of different species over time. Additionally, important information about past environments and ecosystems would be lost.

Only bones can be fossilized soft tissue cannot?

i believe that soft tissue can be fossilized in the right conditions, because not so long ago an elephant was found in ice where the tissue (and bones) were still in tact, but the body was flattened.. if your talking about solid ground then no, soft tissue cannot be fossilized. though im not completely sure being frozen in ice is fossilization.. its most likely.

Ask us anythingWhich is a reason that many organisms that have existed on Earth have left no fossils?

Many organisms that have existed on Earth have left no fossils because their remains may have not been preserved due to conditions that are not conducive to fossilization, such as acidic environments that dissolve bones. Additionally, some organisms may have been too small or had soft bodies that are less likely to fossilize. Lastly, fossilization processes are rare events and not all organisms are fossilized.

Can mineral fossilization occur without the precence of water?

Mineral fossilization most commonly occurs in the presence of water. Water plays a critical role in transporting mineral ions to replace organic material in the fossilization process. However, in some cases, fossilization can occur in arid or dry environments through other processes like desiccation or replacement by volcanic minerals.

Can mineral fossilization occur without the presence of water?

No, mineral fossilization typically requires water to transport minerals to the remains of the organism and facilitate the crystallization process. Water helps in the replacement of organic material with minerals, forming a fossil.

Which is the correct order of the typical sequence of events for fossilization?

The typical sequence or order of fossilization is when a plant or animal dies parts are preserved by freezing, mummification, distillation, or permineralization.

The process of changing the hard parts of the remains of an animal or plant with minerals is called?

The process of changing the hard parts of animal or plant remains with minerals is called fossilization. This process can involve the replacement of organic materials with minerals, preserving the structure of the original organism as a fossil for scientific study.

Is fossiliation fast?

No, Fossilization takes hundreds of millions of years.

The procces of changing the hard parts of the remains of an animal or plant with minerals?

The process you are referring to is fossilization. Fossilization occurs when the hard parts of an organism, such as bones or shells, are replaced by minerals over time. This preserves the organism's structure and allows us to study ancient life forms.
