Hull is 80% Francaphone as opposed to the more Anglophone Ottawa and there has been political noise made about the idea of moving the Capital to Hull so as to more properly represent the French colonial heritage of the country. Canada use to be a French colony and was captured by the British in the Seven Years War(1756 - 1763). Since then there has been a continuing french separatist movement in Canada of which the Hull/Ottawa controversy is a facet.
