Full Gospel, simply put, means that what we learn about Jesus through the scriptures is still true today. None of it was for that time only. (Many Christians, for example, believe that things like prophecy had their time but God no longer uses them.)Jesus preached, he taught, he healed, he forgave, he loved. Full Gospel Christians expect that all of that continues to the present day and go one step farther...

Full Gospel Christians believe that each of us is a disciple of Jesus and as such, we are his representatives on the planet, individually as well as corporately, as the body of Christ. For this purpose, God equips followers with the abilities, talents, etc, s/he needs to perform his or her individual function both inside and outside the church. The use, (and occasionally the unfortunate misuse) of the gifts of the Spirit, such as prophesy and speaking in tongues are common characteristics of full-gospel organizations. The term Full-Gospel has been in many ways merged with pentecostal and charismatic movements and is very difficult to distinguish from them. Sometimes the distinctions come down to how literally the group interprets what is written in the scriptures. Women in some churches for example, may not use make-up or wear pants because of verses in The Bible prohibiting such things.

Many of the described experiences of those in the full-gospel movement are much akin to things described by Christian mystics. They describe visions, revelation of understanding, spontaneous healing, inexplicable joy or peace, a kind of ecstasy during worship.

Many independent churches use the phrase with minor variances in meaning. Some churches which were born out of this movement have imposed rules or codes of behavior during services to curb some of the misuse of the gifts. Because the churches using the label "Full Gospel" my not be linked to other churches, they may not have a system of accountability to a larger expression of the body of Christ, there may be a wide range of what a visitor might discover upon visiting a full-gospel church.

Hope this helps.
