How does a pressure relief valve work?

I'm sure there are other types, but a common pressure relief valve uses an internal spring with a preset (or predetermined) compression value. When the internal pressure reaches the preset value, the spring compresses opening a relief port through which the pressure is relieved until it is once again equal to, or less than, the preset value.

What instrument is used to measure the speed of an airplane?

The speed of an airplane is measured by a system known as the pitot-static system which compares the difference between the static air pressure that exists around the aircraft and the dynamic, or ram air pressure which is a function of the speed the aircraft is moving through the air. The devices used to gather this information are the static air port (which measures static air pressure) and the pitot tube (which measures ram air pressure). This differential is displayed on an instrument in the cockpit called an airspeed indicator (or ASI).

What is the difference between port and socket?

A socket is not a port, though there is a close relationship between them. A socket is associated with a port, though this is a many-to-one relationship. Each port can have a single passive socket, awaiting incoming connections, and multiple active sockets, each corresponding to an open connection on the port. Port identifies a service no. e.g.25 port no is for smtp

What happens as the drive shaft rotates on a Stratopower pump?

It is essentially a variable displacement pump. At low pressure, the sleeve, driven by a spider that is attached to the compensator piston seals the relief holes in the piston to provide positive pressure to the discharge port. When the required pressure is reached, the compensator piston moves the spider to uncover the relief holes from the sleeve. Thus not pressure can be built up in the piston. This results in the pump being off-loaded.
