Rough endoplasmic reticulum is so called because its outer surface is studded with ribosomes. These ribosomes serve as the sites for the translation of RNA into proteins. The primary function of the rough endoplasmic reticulum is protein synthesis.

The Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum is in charge of making proteins and exporting proteins.

Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum has ribosomes attached to it, and smooth ER does not have ribosomes attached to it.

The rough endoplasmic reticulum is a membranous structure that associates closely with the nucleus. Embedded in the membrane of the structure are ribosomes, this is what gives the "rough" appearance. RNA passes through the ribosomes where its sequence of nucleic acid codes for specific amino acids to be joined up in a specific order. The route through the ribosomes for the amino acid takes them into the membranes of the reticulum where they can be kept together. They are then moved of in vesicles formed from the ER membranes to the Golgi Apparatus to be packaged and processed.

The rough ER is involved in protein synthesis. There are ribosomes attached to the surface, giving it a bumpy or 'rough' appearance. Ribosomes are the site of protein synthesis.

It transports material through the Cell and produces proteins in sacks called cistren or cisternae which are sent to the Golgi body for export, or for insertion into the Cell membrane.
The rough endoplasmic reticula synthesize proteins. For more detailed information - see the related link to Wikipedia.

What is the the function of the reticulum?

The endoplasmic reticulum is a packaging system. There is a rough and a smooth endoplasmic reticulum. The rough endoplasmic reticulum is important in the synthesis and packaging of proteins. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum is important in the creation and storage of steroids.

Why is the certain part of endoplasmic reticulum referred as to rough endoplasmic reticulum?

reticulum endoplasmic has two parts: rough endoplasmic reticulum which has the ribosomes that's why they call it rough ( it envolves the sintesis of ribosomes)and reticulo endoplasmico liso which has no ribosomes and his function is to sinthetize the lipids

What is the function of Rough endoplasmic reticulum in animal cell?

Endoplasmic reticulum is like a transport and manufacturing pipeline, for many biochemical compounds. Endoplasmic reticulum function is dependent on its type. There are three types of endoplasmic reticulum, which are:Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER)Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (SER)Sarcoplasmic Reticulum (SR)
