Genre is a category or classification that helps define and organize different types of works, such as books, music, and movies, based on shared characteristics like themes, style, and format. It provides a way for people to easily identify and connect with the type of content they enjoy.

Genre is the type of literature: poetry, essay, Science Fiction, fantasy, adventure, or mystery. The author's purpose is to entertain, inform, or to persuade. Nonfiction books inform you. Fiction entertains you. Letters to the editor and essays and reviews are generally trying to persuade you to do something.
