Many different carp in many different lakes and rivers prefer different things. For example in one of my local lakes bread works best as a surface bait whereas in another the carp won,t touch it but they will take a floating nik nak ( crisp) I suggest you experiment at your local lake or river with a variety of surface baits until you find the right one.
