What is group hate?

An anti-gay hate group is a group of people who come together to protest homosexuality on the grounds of their morals, religious beliefs, and often homophobia. Some anti-gay hate groups are peaceful (if one can call them that) with no more action than marching, picket signs, and slogans/chants. Others purposely harm homosexual individuals, couples, and/or their families in physical (beatings, rape, throwing of objects, etc.) and/or emotional (hate mail, harassment, etc.) manners.

There is a huge difference between a hate group and a group that is merely-anti gay. Hate groups nearly always resort to violence, and they target individuals, not just ideas. Many groups just oppose gayness itself on religious, moral, scientific, philosophical, or health-related grounds, even if misguided. Many who are biased in favor of gayness cannot separate those who oppose gay behavior from those who practice it. Protesting gayness is not in itself a hateful act, since those who do so maintain it is about love for those caught up in that life. However, groups like Westboro Baptist, don't stop at protesting gayness. Their very signs show they actually hate gay people, or at the least, believe God does and that they are worthy of hate. It is groups like that who ruin it for those who used their own minds to conclude that gayness is wrong. It is like in the abortion debate. I would say there that those who harass women, block access to clinics, burn/bomb clinics and even shoot doctors are nowhere close to the same as those who simply oppose abortion, and make up maybe less than 10%. It is like that with the gay issue too, and the few violent people give gay militants (which also don't represent the entire group) excuses to try to silence all who oppose gayness.
