It's simply a piece of paper with limited important points that form the basis of the information you used for your presentation. Give them out at the end, and tell your audience this before you start so they needn't make extensive notes. It also means they'll pay attention, but by giving it out afterwards, they won't be tempted to look at them as your presentation is ongoing.

A handout is a page with one slide or more on it, that can be handed out to the people who have seen the presentation. They can use them to help them remember what was in the show and maybe make notes on.

Handouts are printouts of the slides you have used in your presentation. If you wanted to give people a copy of the slides so they could look at them, you can print out the handouts. You can have more than one slide on your sheets of paper and also leave space for people to make notes. That would be useful for people watching your presentation. You could give the handouts out before they see the show, so that they could make notes as they watch beside the slides on the handouts.
