I like to think of it as the social science of medicine, based on areas of study such as economics, political science, management and demography.

The US Government makes several policy statements every year which cover the state of the Nations Health, Hospitals etc and others which produce facts and figures about healthcare within the US. These can all be considered as part of US health care policy.
