Magnesium Oxide increases in mass because it is made of oxygen AND magnesium, and the symbol equation explains that 2MG (2 magnesium) + O2( 2 oxygen) makes 2MGO (2 Magnesium Oxide) because oxygen is a molecule as the 2 shows that for oxygen it is made up of 2 atoms, and to balance the equation magnesium must be 2 too, making 2 Magnesium Oxide ,this shows the mass increases as oxygen is ADDED to magnesium, thus making it heavier and an increase in mass. Ta-Da just amazing chemistry logic!! :)
It is because the magnesium has combined with the oxygen, and believe it or not oxygen actually has a weight, so the weight of the magnesium increases as it now has some oxygen molecules.
2 times
carbon atom has mass of 12 amu while mass of magnesium atom is 24 amu.
its simple
(University of Professor Danish)
The Atomic Mass of Mg is 24 g/mol which is twice in mass as compared to the atomic mass of C i.e 12g/mol. so mg atom s twice heavier than that of carbon
The formula mass for MgO is greater than that for Mg.
2 times heavier

Nitrous Oxide is heavier than air.
It is a compound.
Magnesium is an element. Magnesium oxide is a compound formed from magnesium and oxygen. Magnesium oxide often serves as a magnesium supplement.
When a magnesium strip is heated strongly in air, it undergoes a chemical reaction called oxidation. Magnesium reacts with oxygen in the air to form magnesium oxide. The mass of the strip increases because magnesium combines with oxygen atoms from the air to form a heavier compound (magnesium oxide).
Magnesium reacts with steam faster than cold water because magnesium needs to burn to get magnesium oxide and to get magnesium oxide there has to be heat and since steam is already heated it doesn't need much time, but the cold water needs time to heat first to react.
no
Magnesium becomes heavier after it is burnt. This is because the magnesium has chemically bonded with oxygen to form magnesium oxide. The oxygen adds the extra weight.
Nitrous Oxide is heavier than air.
Magnesium Oxide
It is a compound.
This compound is magnesium oxide - MgO.
You get a grey powder because magnesium is higher up in the reactivity series than Copper - (magnesium is more reactive than copper) therefore when you heat it up there is a displacement reaction. That grey powder is actully magnesium oxide and copper e.g Copper oxide + magnesium = magnesium oxide and copper.
MgO is a compound because it has more than one type of element in it, magnesium and oxygen.
Magnesium + copper oxide --> magnesium oxide + copper
