Hikuta is a method of self-defense that uses the startle reflex, gross motor skills close combat moves.

People are born with the startle reflex and gross motor skills thus Hikuta doesn't take long to learn, it's just a matter of retraining ones reflexes a little along with using gross motor skills.

Gross motor skills are often referred to in very young children who can sometimes be clumsy when they move.

Basically they are just moving their body from one place to another... When they do this they are using gross motor skills...

As they get older they learn to develop fine motor skills, this gives them better aim and accuracy.

During a fight or times of great stress however, fine motor skills are lost, as the body sends most of the blood supply to the major muscle groups, stomach, legs and back.

Sometimes this is referred as an adrenaline dump.

This is why we hear about people using great strength to use heavy objects during an emergency.

In Hikuta we utilize the power available from this adrenaline dump for basic combat-style techniques that are designed to quickly end a fight.

Because of the way Hikuta is designed many have learned enough to defend themselves by video instruction.
