The main book is the Tao Te Ching, by Lao Zi, or Lao Tsu. Or Lao Tzu. Those are all mainly used names. The correct one is Lao Zi though.

Taoism has no specific canon of scripture, however there are several books which are considered to be the main sources of doctrine of this faith. The first is the Tao te Ching (or Dao de Jing - "Morality Scripture"), which is a collection of poems and stories which were written by the Chinese philosopher Lao Tze. This book of poetry and philosophy explains the Way of the Tao. The book itself is sometimes also called Lao Tze.

The second most important work is the Chuang Tzu or Zhuang Zi, written by the man of the same name. In this book the completion of the primary doctrines of Daoism are contained (specifically the doctrine of Wu-wei).

The final main text is the Lie Zi, which was named after the man who was believed to have written it. This however is probably an apocryphal association.

Daozang, Tau Te Ching, and Zhuangzi

• The Daodejing is the most well known and influential of the Daoist texts. It is thought to be written by the Chinese philosopher Laozi in the 3rd or 4th century BC, and centers on the paradoxical nature of the "Dao" (or "way") and how one can attain it.
• Another important text is the Zhuangzi, by the Chinese philosopher of the same name.
• The Daozang translates as "Daoist canon"and contains over 1400 assorted teachings compiled from various Daoist monks.

Tao Te Ching is the main Taoist text. It was written by a man named Lao Tsu 400BC or so.

The seminal work is known as the Tao Te Ching, a remarkably brief book supposedly written down by a border guard after talking to a master. It's most famous passage is Chapter Five, which states, "Heaven-and-Earth is not sentimental; it treats the ten thousand things as straw dogs." That is to say that nothing of the present world is guaranteed continued existence.

There is no single holy book of Zen Buddhism. Zen Buddhism is a practice; it is not a creed or set of ideas. Therefore, what counts is mastering the practice, which is called "zazen." There are plenty of books about how to master the practice, but they are not holy books.
