Illumination is a quasi-mystical state where people have a spontaneous, overwhelming "Aha!" moment, usually in regards to the role of mankind (or themselves in particular) in the universe, or in relation to "god" (however they choose to define god), usually marked by a sense of complete understanding and euphoria.
