It was the first moon they found which associated with the faint G-Ring. Astronomers theory is that each ring is supported by moons. They had not found a moon on the G-ring so they couldn't explain why the G-Ring had formed. When they found Aegaeon their theory could acctualy make sense.
the first moon discovered on Saturn is Aegaeon
If you discount the hundreds of moonlets, then the smallest moon is Aegaeon with a diameter of about half a kilometer
Aegaeon - band - was created in 2008.
Ay-jee-on
As of August 3, 2010, the last two moons of Saturn that have been discovered are Aegaeon and S/2009 S 1.
The smaller and more distant a moon is, the harder it is to detect. The smallest moon so far discovered is Aegaeon, a moon of Saturn with a diameter of around half a kilometre.

Located in our own solar system, Aegaeon is one of Saturn's moons. It is about .5 km in diameter. Photographs were taken as recently as January 2010 by the Cassini-Huygens robotic spacecraft mission.
Venus and Mercury have the least moons in our solar system with none at all!
The distance from Saturn to the moon of Earth is similar to the distance from Saturn to the Earth. This is about 746 million miles, or 1.2 billion kilometers.
Titania (Not to be confused with Titan a moon of Saturn or Triton Neptune's moon) is the largest moon of Uranus. It's the eighth largest moon in the Solar System with a diameter of 1,578 km.It was discovered in 1787 by William Herschel on the same day he discovered Oberon another moon of Uranus.See link for more information.
