I have been raise a round pools and worked on them for years. winterizing means draining ALL water out of pipes, pumps, filters and heaters. if water is left in anything it could freeze and break whatever it is in. I think it is easier just to run pool as normal actually less in winter for the fact you dont use as much chemical due to temp. you only have to worry about those below freezing nites and when it going to stay cold for a while. i live in houston, tx so we dont tend to freeze alot but it is safer to just run pools during the freezes vs. winterize for inground. if above groung pool yeah winterize put plugs in and store filter and pump in garage.
You have to get a test kit that tests for it (Taylor makes a few). It's easier to take it to your local pool store though.
Someone/something changed the original question and that is probably why it has not been answered.Safe levels for chlorine are 1.5 ppm to about 5.0 ppm. of free chlorine. You should have a test kit that will give you free chlorine readings as opposed to just a chlorine residual. Free chlorine is what sanitizes the pool water. If you can smell a chlorine odor coming from your pool then you do not have enough chlorine in the water.K
Just add Chlorine manually to the pool... I recomend liquid chlorine, because if you decide to replace the cell the calcum from powder chlorine will clog up the cell... How much chlorine should you add depends on so many factors eg the size of the pool, the water temp, how much you use the pool ect, ect. Its All trial & Error. where i live, in east sydney Australia for an average pool (50,000L) i tell people 1L a day in summer & 1L every 2-4 Days in winter. but you really should get a test kit & test the chlorine every few day till you work out the chlorine demand of your pool....
Thiosulfate will neutralize chlorine. Buy it at a pool store.
This is a tricky answer but it's quite simple... Actually the chlorine they used for the pool is like the chlorine we use to clean our fish tank. They use it to clean the germs in the pool ex. urine in the pool and young kids who can't hold back their poo.
You buy a little test kit, and adjust the chlorine as directed.
Algae, time for chlorine. Pool supply places have a test kit (ph) & can tell you how to use & what to add-chlorine or acid.
You need a test kit
Get a test kit
follow owners manual instructions which comes with the test care kit.
Use a reliable test kit.
Use a test strip or test kit. They will tell you your chlorine level. You want it between a 1 and a 3.

Both the sun and bacteria in the pool breaks down the chlorine. You need to keep up the chlorine level daily to keep the pool clear, either by adding or using tablets in the skimmer as you filter. Ues a test kit to check it.

Get a new testing kit And take a sample of the pool water to the pool shop where they will be able to advise you on your particular needs. And use 12.5% strength liquid chlorine to get the fast high rise that you need.
You can buy a testing kit and test your water to see if there are any abnormal bacteria in your water that would be keeping the chlorine levels low. Otherwise, just add chlorine daily to keep your pool safe for swimming.
