Grain alcohol is ethanol made from fermenting grain. Depending on its intended use, it is sold diluted with a specific amount of water.

If it is not intended for human consumption (drinking) but is intended as a solvent, fuel or some industrial use, something is added to it to make it poisonous and it is called denatured alcohol. Once denatured, it can no longer be made safe to drink by normal means.
