To receive certification as a medical assistant one has to have attended and graduated from an accredited school that offers a medical assistant training program. Once a person has graduated they can then take the exam to receive certification. The test can be taken at different points in the year at a preset location. A person has 90 days to complete the exam. The exam is given by the AAMA and does cost money to take.
