Supervisors talk about their jobs:

  • It depends on where or what you are supervising, ie, children - make sure they dont hurt themself or others, dont break things etc. Or in a supermarket - answer any problems that people have, make sure the workers are doing what they are supposed to be doing.
  • Agreed... but overall our job is to make sure the warehouse runs as smoothly as possible and keep our members happy. Supervisors have a variety of "Behind the Scenes" tasks that many do not see unless one asks or shadows a supervisor. Member service is always key! After all, they pay to shop in our building and deserve the best treatment.

Can a supervisor clock you at work?

A supervisor's job is to supervise. If they see that someone is clocking in or out inappropriately, it is their job to straighted it out. If they do not do that, they are not doing their job. If you feel that the supervisor is in error, first tell the supervisor, and if you get no satisfaction, take it up the chain of command. Shop Steward, VP, whomever.

How do you answer 'What have you done to prepare yourself to be a supervisor' in a job interview?

Presumably this is promotion, in the same company or in an equivalent position at a different company. You need to show that you know the job. Show that you understand what a supervisor needs to do. What makes a good supervisor in your company or industry? In any industry, a supervisor should be able to manage people. This means more than being liked. It means being respected. It means being able to communicate the priorities of the company to the staff. It means understanding your employees and their needs, and knowing how their needs fit in with the needs of the organization.
