In Israel, Arab citizens (Muslims and Christians) and Yeshiva students are exempt from compulsory military service.

In the US, only ministers and ministry students (from all religions) are exempt from selective service registration but members of some faiths including the Amish and the Seventh Day Adventists frequently claimed conscientious objector status while the draft was active
